The Early Years teaching team is a highly skilled group of teachers and educational aids trained to develop a solid foundation in your child’s literacy, numeracy, and social/emotional skills sets. We believe it is important to identify and address our students learning needs through a variety of highly effective and research based educational programs.
Strong Beginnings:
In September of each year Rosenort School runs Strong Beginnings for all K-4 students. Strong Beginnings is an assessment project designed to enhance the beginning of the year assessment, which begins in all classrooms on the first day of school and continues throughout the year. The Strong Beginnings activities are not tests. They are tasks designed to help teachers get to know their students and how they learn in order to know where to begin with instruction.
During Strong Beginnings each student from Kindergarten to Grade Four attends school by appointment for 40-60 minutes to participate in assessment activities in language arts and mathematics. During this time your child will meet individually or in small groups with their teacher(s). This will give teachers an opportunity to collect information on each child about; how they learn, their confidence as learners, the learning strategies they possess, their reading, writing and mathematical skills, their approach to problem solving and their attitude toward school and learning. It is also a chance for teachers to further develop the teacher-student relationship.
The information teachers gather during the Strong Beginnings appointments will be used to; help enhance teachers’ instructional planning, improve curriculum implementation and instruction and provide clear feedback to parents.
KIDS (Kindergarten Instruction Developing Strengths)
The purpose of this program is to target those children who would benefit from extra support and individual attention in their Language Arts and Numeracy skills.
Students identified as requiring extra support in Literacy and Numeracy are invited for 20 afternoon sessions that specifically and prescriptively address their individual learning needs. This program has been very effective in addressing and closing the learning gap that begins to emerge between week and strong students. By the end of this program we ensure all our students are ready to start grade
LIDS (Literacy Intervention Developing Strengths)
The purpose of this program is to target those children in grade 1 who are in need of extra support and attention in reading and writing. From mid November to mid February extra staffing support is alloted to the grade one classroom so the teacher can effectively address and target reading and writing strategies of students requiring support.
This program is designed to ensure all students leave grade 1 with a solid foundation in reading and writing. We believe our students future success throughout their school career is critically dependent on a strong foundation in reading and writing being established as early as possible.
Skating Program
During the winter months Rosenort School partners with Rosenort Minor Hockey to provide a skating program for our k-2 students. This program consists of 10 sessions in which staff spend time teaching students how to skate as part of the Physical Education programming.

Swim Gym Program
Every year our grade 3-4 students participate in Swim & Gym at the University of Manitoba. This gives our students a great opportunity to experience activities such as wall climbing, fencing, archery, gymnastics, and of course swimming.

Bright Beginnings Pre-School
The philosophy of this program is to provide 3 and 4 year olds with an opportunity to develop their kindergarten readiness skills. Children will be encouraged to grow to their own learning potential and be provided with a strong foundation for future learning in a fun and secure and nurturing environment
Skills will be developed through both structured activities and free play. Singing, rhymes, games and crafts will introduce children to important social/emotional, physical, and intelectual skills. Emphasis will be placed on meeting individual's needs as they may vary significantly at this age.
