Middle Years

Grade Five to Grade Eight

Strong Beginnings:
In September of each year Rosenort School runs Strong Beginnings for all grade 5-6 students. Strong Beginnings is an assessment project designed to enhance the beginning of the year assessment, which begins in all classrooms on the first day of school and continues throughout the year. TheStrong Beginnings activities are not tests. They are tasks designed to help teachers get to know their students and how they learn in order to know where to begin with instruction.

During Strong Beginnings each student from Grade 5 to Grade 6 attends school by appointment for 15-30 minutes to participate in assessment activities in language arts and mathematics. During this time your child will meet individually or in small groups with their teacher(s). This will give teachers an opportunity to collect information on each child about; how they learn, their confidence as learners, the learning strategies they possess, their reading, writing and mathematical skills, their approach to problem solving and their attitude toward school and learning. It is also a chance for teachers to further develop the teacher-student relationship.

The information teachers gather during the Strong Beginningsappointments will be used to; help enhance teachers’ instructional planning, improve curriculum implementation and instruction and provide clear feedback to parents.

Information Communication & Technology
ICT is a large part of education in today’s society. The Rosenort School Middle Years team incorporates ICT in their daily classrooms through the use of smart boards, computers and other digital media.

The technology infrastructure at Rosenort school has been recently upgraded including the installation of fiber optics, a mobile lab, and a wireless network. Our goal is to use current technology and digital media as a tool in the learning of daily curriculum.

Middle Year Sports

Our grade 5-8 students have participated in a variety of interscholastic sports such as:
Soccer
Softball
Volleyball
Basketball
Badminton

Curling (5-6)

Choir

One of the largest challenges in a small school is being able to provide quality arts and music programming. We are very fortunate to have a very strong middle years choir program for our grade 5-8 students.

Home Economics

The grade 7 & 8 students participate in the Red River Valley School Division Home Economics Program hosted by Morris School. Within this program students are exposed to the basics of sewing, healthy eating and cooking.
