Practice good Sportsmanship.
“Good sportsmanship is viewed by the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association as a commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity. In perception and practice, sportsmanship is defined as those qualities, which are characterized by generosity and genuine concern for others. The ideals of sportsmanship apply equally to all athletic disciplines. Individuals, regardless of their role, are expected to be aware of their influence on the behavior of others and model good sportsmanship.” All coaches and teacher supervisors have completed the Respect in Sport certification.
Parents, athletes and coaches with concerns about a sports program should bring their concerns first to the appropriate athletic director.
Coaches expect players to demonstrate a commitment to the team by attending all practices and games. Each player should be willing to make a solid effort to improve their skills, encourage team-mates, have a positive attitude and show good sportsmanship on and off the court. Coaches as well, are to adhere to the playing policy for each level and display a positive attitude and good sportsmanship on and off the court.
The Junior High program will provide an opportunity for students in grades 7 & 8 to participate on a school team, which competes within the Red River Valley Athletic Association. All players can expect some playing time during each league and exhibition games. During the playoffs, coaches may play those players who will perform in order to help advance the team further in the standings and win the competition.
